My ancestor was a soldier who died in World War I. Do you have any information on him?
You may find your ancestor in the minor records under Service Returns, which includes War Returns. Amongst these are the registers of deaths of Scots serving as Warrant officers, Non-commissioned officers or Men in the Army in World War 1. Note that Commissioned officers are not included.
To search the Service Returns:
- Go to the statutory deaths search form.
- Select "Minor Records" from the Counties/City/Minor Records drop-down list.
- The screen will refresh with the available minor records displayed in the District drop-down list.
- Select "Service Returns".
For more detailed information on the deaths in minor records, look at Statutory deaths in Record Types & Examples.
